President's Report
Because we are all busy preparing for the Christmas break, this will be our last eNews for 2018. I hope you have enjoyed reading these bulletins over the past twelve months. I have tried to provide a variety of items that would appeal to 2119 readers. Many of our readers are now in the Parramatta local government area and unfortunately our committee member contact with Parramatta Council has had to resign from the Trust Committee for personal reasons. If anyone is interested in taking over this role and joining the committee, please get back to me. The workload is only what you want to do, and it can be rewarding, liaising between the local community and council.

Thank you to those who provided feedback on the suggested use of the Bunya Pine wood as a bench seat in the Beecroft Community Hall. You all thought it was a good idea. I will request Hornsby Council to approach the Hornsby Men’s Shed to build the seat.

Below are listed some important dates for the New Year. Please note them in your diaries. On behalf of the Trust I wish you all a joyful and safe Christmas and new year.

Ross Walker

Clean Up Australia 2019
Clean Up Australia for 2019 will be held on the first Sunday of March, namely 3^rd March. The Trust will register again and nominate the Beecroft Village Green as a meeting place. More details will be posted early next year.

New South Wales State Government Elections
We will all be voting on Saturday 23^rd March 2019. The Trust has booked the Beecroft Bowling Club (Beecroft Club) in Copeland Road for a “Meet the Candidates” evening on Tuesday 12^th March 2019. This is traditionally, an event where the Trust invites all candidates for the local Seat of Epping to address the residents of Beecroft and Cheltenham. Further details will be posted early next year.

Beecroft Cheltenham Civic Trust Annual General Meeting 2019
The Trust will hold its AGM on Tuesday 19^th March 2019 at the Beecroft Bowling Club, commencing at 7.30pm. Guest speaker will be Hornsby Council’s Group Manager of Planning James Farrington, who will provide residents with a summary of changes to the planning legislation and their impact on Beecroft and Cheltenham. More details will be posted in the New Year, including details of how residents can join the Trust Committee. To ensure the Trust’s survival, it is essential we have a steady flow of Committee members.
Recent Development Applications in Hornsby Shire Council
In the previous eNews we reported on the Land and Environment Court’s refusal of a seniors housing development at 79 Murray Farm Road Beecroft. That was within Parramatta City Council’s area. There has been a number of development applications in Hornsby Council’s area that may be of interest.

The seniors housing proposal at 95-97 Copeland Rd and 14 Hull Rd Beecroft was deferred by the IHAP, the Panel requesting the applicant to investigate how to reduce the bulk and scale of the complex and how to save more trees. CLICK HERE (http://businesspapers.hornsby.nsw.gov.au/Open/2018/11/LPP_28112018_MIN.PDF) for the link.

The proposed rebuilding of the demolished heritage dwelling at 587 Pennant Hills Rd Beecroft (DA623/2018) which is associated with an approved seniors housing development at the corner of Pennant Hills and Copeland Roads, is still with Hornsby Council. The Trust has written to Council stating that the applicant should not obtain any financial gain as a consequence of his actions. The applicant proposes to rebuild the demolished dwelling and sell it as part of the senior’s housing development. Click here for the Trust’s email to Council.
DA620/2018 for a child care centre at the corner of Cardinal Avenue and Grace Avenue Beecroft has been withdrawn by the applicant. In other words, Council was not prepared to approve the proposal.
After five years the contentious five lot subdivision at 79-87 Malton Road is still making the news. Our Councillors have shared the following statement with residents.
“In the matter of Hornsby Council v Henlong Property Group Pty Ltd for the unauthorised removal of eight trees at Nos. 79 - 87 Malton Road, Beecroft, a guilty plea has been entered by the defendant in the Land and Environment Court. Development Consent No. 94/2013 for the subdivision of land at the subject property was obtained on 27 May 2016. However, at the time of the offence the consent was not operative due to deferred commencement conditions having not been satisfied. As a result, Class 5 prosecution proceedings were lodged in the Land and Environment Court earlier this year for the unauthorised works. On 16 November 2018, the proceedings were relisted before the Judge and a plea of guilty was entered by Henlong Property Group Pty Ltd for the offence. The ten day hearing dates were vacated and the matter has been relisted for sentencing on 18, 19 and 20 February 2019”
